Financial Conflict of Interest

An important part of research integrity and maintaining the public trust is proper management of financial conflicts of interest that might affect a person’s judgment during the conduct of research. Federal and state agencies have created policies that require mitigation of potential conflicts of interest. These must be followed by investigators awarded funds by these agencies. To assist investigators in this process, the university has formulated a Financial Conflict of Interest policy that, when adhered to, will allow all investigators to be in compliance with these policies and maintain the public trust.

All Investigators are required to disclose their outside financial interests related to a proposed project to the Institution at the time of proposal submission, on an annual in the event the project is funded and on an ad hoc basis as changes in their situation arise.  Disclosure is made via the Financial Conflict of Interest Form.

FCOI Training for PHS Funded Investigators

Each Investigator must complete training on this policy prior to engaging in research funded by the Public Health Service (PHS), and at least every four years thereafter. Though not required for investigators funded through agencies other than PHS, this training may also be helpful for investigators who have never thought about Financial Conflict of Interest. It can be found below:
