Dr. Anna A. Paltseva, Endowed Assistant Professor in Environmental Sciences and Director of the Delta Urban Soils Lab at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is the receipent of the 2023 Soil Science Education and Extension Award. The award is given by the Soil Science Society of America. 

The Soil Science and Extension Award recognizes the educational achievements in soil science. Soil scientists making outstanding educational contributions through activities such as resident, extension, or industrial education are eligible for nomination. Contributions on which the nomination is based will have been made within the past 10 years. 

Judges recognized Dr. Paltseva for innovative approaches that encourage learning, for demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly, for motivating change in the audience, and recognition of accomplishments by peers or students. 

Dr. Paltseva received her Ph.D in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the City University of New York Graduate Center. With a focus on urban soil contamination and innovative remediation methods, Dr. Paltseva is a highly accomplished researcher in this field. Her expertise has been showcased in eight podcasts, 29 published articles, and presentations at 44 conferences across six countries. Additionally, she holds prominent leadership roles, including the SSSA Chair of Urban & Anthropogenic Division. She organizes sessions, workshops, and co-chairs conferences in various countries in collaboration with international scientists. Dr. Paltseva is publishing her first book "The Urban Soil Guide: Field and Lab Manual."
