The sponsor announces a competition for the Fiscal Year 2012 Basic Research Initiative (BRI) program, for the following topics: • Reliance Optimization for Autonomous Systems • Origami Design for the Integration of Self-assembling Systems for Engineering Innovation (ODISSEI) (Sub themes: Compliant Mechanisms, Active Materials, Bio-origami, Foldable Structures and Microstructures) • Microresonator-Based Optical Frequency Combs • Active, Functional Nanoscale Oxides • Ultracold and Strongly Coupled Plasmas • New Optimization and Computational Paradigms for Design under Uncertainty of Complex Engineering Systems • Bio-Nanocombinatorics The sponsor is seeking unclassified, white papers and proposals that do not contain proprietary information. We expect our research to be fundamental. This announcement remains open until superseded. White papers are strongly encouraged prior to submitting a full proposal. Due: White papers that are found to be of interest will be encouraged to develop into full proposals. Proposals are reviewed and evaluated as they are received. Proposals may be submitted at any time.
