NSF STEM Programs Webinar with Dr. Luis Cubano

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation & Economic Development recently welcomed Dr. Luis Cubano as its featured guest for a presentation on NSF STEM Programs.

Dr. Cubano has served as the lead program officer for the Centers for Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) in EES since June 2022. Before joining NSF, he was the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at the Universidad Central del Caribe (UCC) School of Medicine. For two years, he became the Lead Extramural Training Program Director for the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Cubano’s interagency service includes the NASA Postdoctoral Program, the Committee on STEM (CoSTEM), and the Interagency Working Group on Veterans and Military Spouses in STEM. Additionally, he serves on the Agency Priority Goal: External Engagement Team, Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO – Educational and Public Outreach (EPO) Committee, and Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Equity and Diversity (GRANTED) Strategic Review.

Dr. Cubano holds a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology from Tulane University, a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama, Huntsville, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology (Genetics, Developmental, and Cell Biology) from Kansas State University.
