Export Controls Training
Export controls training is required for University personnel who work with export-controlled items, technology, software, technical data, equipment, materials, hardware, or other restricted research-related information.
Before beginning training, University personnel should review the University’s Export Control Policy and Export Compliance Procedure Manual.
The University uses the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative, or CITI Program, for online export controls training. University personnel are encouraged to review the University’s Export Control Policy and Export Compliance Procedure Manual as part of the export controls training process.
Who Should Complete Export Controls Training?
Export controls training may be required for faculty, staff, students, visiting researchers, research personnel, or other University-affiliated individuals who are involved in activities that may include:
- Export-controlled technology, software, technical data, equipment, materials, or hardware;
- Research involving restricted parties, foreign collaborators, foreign sponsors, or international shipments;
- Projects involving military, defense, space, nuclear, encryption, select agent, controlled biological, or other sensitive technologies;
- Sponsor-imposed publication, participation, access, or dissemination restrictions;
- International travel involving University equipment, research data, software, or technology;
- Technology Control Plans or other project-specific compliance controls; or
- Any activity identified by the Export Control Officer as requiring training.
The Export Control Officer will determine whether export controls training is required and whether any optional or project-specific modules must be completed.
